Loft 19 | A+Z Design Studio

The Loft 19, an abandoned and peaceful environment with special aesthetics, is located in Budapest, Hungary.

It was designed by A+Z Design Studio.

Description by A+Z Design Studio:

“This is an island over the city, abandoned and peaceful environment with special aesthetics.“

No matter that living there is a bit like plunged into the world of  the “Sin City”  or the science fiction movie “Metropolis” of Fritz Lang.

The architect and production designer Attila F. Kovács and his wife art director and stylist Zsuzsa Megyesi found this  unusual giant space and movie set like environment ideal for making their home.

The HFF kniting factory complex is located in the southern part of the capital of Hungary, Budapest  and dates as early as from 1913-1915.  It was originally  built as a weapon factory designed by Árpád Gut and Jenö Gergely.  The Loft 19, this  tower like 600 sqm four-story -building  and the huge  factory complex are protected industrial monuments .

A concrete fire water tank was found in the attic which was turned into a swimming pool with artificial current.   The design of the space is a personal mix of different styles and eras. It is full of special pieces, collected one by one during decades in flea markets, auctions and antique shops or created by the designers themselves. Huge windows,  light, the unusual size rooms , the old structural elements and materials play the main role .  Old iron doors were kept, original beams reused for book shelves. The bedroom level on the contrary was designed to be  bold and private with a mid century “boudoir like” atmosphere to it.

Apartment in Hungary | Gaspar Bonta

This renovated apartment, first home for a newlywed couple, is located in Budapest, Hungary.

It was designed by Gaspar Bonta.

Description by Caspar Bonta:

“When I first visited this apartment (a 160 m2 part of a beautiful villa from the 30s), it charmed me instantly. My client, whom I’ve been working with for quite some time now felt it too, it had a certain fairy taleish magic moving around the walls. It was around that time he told me that he’s going to marry his girlfriend, whom he was living in an apartment I designed him earlier. This all made perfect sense in my head, a new part of life for the young couple and a new part of life for the old building. They all needed the same thing: a fresh start, a new canvas.
We tried to respect the original qualities of the house, while considering what could happen to the couple in the next four-five years. The ground floor is dedicated entirely to public functions and a family space, kitchen, dining and living room, a cozy lounge and the necessary buffer spaces (toilet, etc.) We wanted it to be as pure, airy, light as possible. Like Debussy’s ‘Prélude á l’aprés-midi d’un faune’, a magical walk in a calm and light space.
The first floor is the intimate level of the apartment. The master bedroom has an excellent view over the hills, a walking garderobe and a dedicated bathroom. The guest bedroom which is will eventually be the kid’s room has the same view and close to the other bathroom on the floor. Every material, every color in the bedrooms is similar to the ones on the ground floor but a bit warmer, more cozy, more intimate.

We used premium materials combined with white or light grey surfaces, granite, glass and

steel, porcelain and brick – all in their purest, most honest form. All spaces, furniture,

lighting were designed with the sole purpose of creating a perfect empty canvas for the couple, so the story of their life can fill it with details.”

Studio Loft | GASPARBONTA

Description by GASPARBONTA:

STUDIO LOFT is a delicate flat in downtown Budapest. Originally a studio of a well-known hungarian painter, this flat has all the right features to be a contemporary loft home. The huge central space which contains the kitchen and the living room is accompanied by two bedrooms with separate bathrooms each and a small, invisible storage space.

Naturally, the visually most engaging part is the enormous window in the central space, which is almost 4 by 4 meters. The flat happens to be located on a corner of Budapest’s central park area, Városliget, which is currently being transformed into a multi-layered cultural and recreational park (the Liget Budapest project).

The interior design concept is based on using the existing industrial features and combine them with clear geometry, raw and honest materials, like iron, concrete and wood to create a smooth, airy, empty space. Then add some colorful furnitures and art pieces and finally, add some unique lighting solutions, to perfect the visual consistency.

ZONA Restaurant | POSITION Collective

Description by POSITION Collective:

Designed with POSITION Collective’s functional and minimalist view, ZONA ensures a magical drinking and dining experience, with beautiful features and a soothing ambience, plus some added surprises. This is a truly thoughtful design which simultaneously combines and separates the two functionally different areas – the restaurant and wine bar – by dividing a single space into two clearly distinct areas, both in terms of materials used and atmosphere.
